A Shallowford day visit fits neatly within the school day - typically four to five hours - and gives young people a genuine taste of life on a working Dartmoor farm. It's hands-on, it's outdoors and it's nothing like a classroom.
Young people arrive, pull on their wellies and get stuck in. By the time they leave, they've cared for animals, worked the land and experienced something they'll be talking about long after the minibus pulls away.
Every day visit is tailored to your group and what you want to get from it.
Activities are delivered by our hands-on team and might include:
- Feeding and caring for the farm animals
- Working in the kitchen garden
- Conservation and nature activities
- Learning about where food comes from
- Exploring the Dartmoor landscape on foot
A hot cooked lunch is available to include in your visit. Feshly prepared using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.
Because food at Shallowford is always taken seriously.
A Shallowford day visit supports learning across a range of curriculum areas including science, geography, PSHE, food technology and outdoor education. We're happy to discuss how we can tailor the programme to your specific learning objectives.
Day visits are priced flexibly, and include a cooked lunch if required. Part-funding is available for schools with limited budgets - speak to us about what might be possible.
"A colleague of several decades experience described it as the most powerful time he's ever experienced as a teacher observing the life changing impact on the children."
