Shallowford is a warm and working farm, emedded into the Dartmoor landscape, with real animals to care for and proper food grown from the ground. It's a school trip, but one the children will never forget. Young people arrive on Monday nervous, resistant, and not sure why they've come.

By Friday they've fed the animals twice a day, worked the land, built fires, gone on a night walk under a sky full of stars, and eaten meals cooked from scratch with food grown steps away. Something shifts.

Teachers notice it. Parents notice it. The young people notice it too.

for schools, youth groups and young people who need something different.

Morning - Ready for the day by 8am. Animals are fed before breakfast. Then a farming activity like herding sheep, working in the kitchen garden or tending the livestock.

Afternoon - Lunch together, then an outdoor or nature activity. Making a fire, building den shelters in the woods or exploring the farm.

Evening - Animals fed again, then dinner together. The evening might bring a night walk across Dartmoor, games around the fireplace, or time simply spent together.

a typical day

Every day at Shallowford has a rhythm.

And that rhythm is part of what makes it work.

Shallowford welcomes a wide range of residential visitors:

Primary and secondary, state or independent, mainstream and SEND provision. A Monday to Friday stay has the deepest impact, giving young people time to truly settle into farm life. Shorter stays of one to two
nights are also available.

schools

youth groups

Young carers, youth clubs, sports groups, church-affiliated groups, outdoor expedition groups, Scouts, Guides, and more. Shallowford works
well for team building,
off-site programmes and
social residentials.

"Really engaging activities which were miles out of our children's comfort zones. Many don't have gardens, very rarely have a home cooked meal, live on screen time and do very little outside of school."
