East Shallowford Farm is run by a small, dedicated team who between them bring together expertise in farming, education, conservation, community engagement and catering. What they share - beyond their very different backgrounds - is a genuine passion for this place and the young people who come here.
Jaime Bowden - Youth Engagement & Admin Officer
Jaime joined in 2024 and has been instrumental in developing the Farm to Fork initiative - coordinating visits for hundreds of children to farms across Dartmoor. When she's not at Shallowford, she and her husband Scott run their own Dartmoor hill farm.
Sarah Buckland - Catering Manager
Sarah lives locally in Widecombe and plans every menu around seasonality and local ingredients. A qualified wholefoods chef, she particularly loves cooking with the children, harvesting from the kitchen garden and turning the morning's work into lunch.
Emily Tyack-Moore - Volunteer & Partnerships Officer
Emily studied Environmental Biology and has spent her career in community engagement. At Shallowford, her job is simple in theory and endlessly rewarding in practice: finding more ways for more people to experience the farm.
Fiona Lambeck - Trust Manager
Originally from Canberra, Fiona trained as a lawyer before working in child protection with local government. She came to Shallowford and never looked back. She manages visiting groups, works with farmers and funders alike, and knows Dartmoor like the back of her hand.
Will Dracup - Farm Manager
Born at the neighbouring farm, Will studied Agriculture at Bicton College and has spent his career improving Shallowford's grassland, livestock and wetland management. He sits on the Dartmoor Hill Farm Project steering group, is a Secretary of State Appointed Member of the National Park Authority, and is Chairman of the local NFU.
David Onah - Programme Officer
David arrived at Shallowford for a taster weekend in 2021 and has been here ever since. Now a core member of the team, he leads youth activities, cares for the farm animals, and has a remarkable gift for getting absolutely everyone - eventually - to muck out.
- David Onah, Programme Officer
"You can always find colleagues when you get a job. But you can't always find a community."
The Shallowford Trust is overseen by a board of trustees who bring a wealth of experience in law, education, farming, conservation and community work. Many of them have personal connections to the farm stretching back decades - some to Elizabeth Braund herself. They are united by a commitment to ensuring that Shallowford continues to make a difference for the next 50 years and beyond.
Alison Adlam - Chairman
Alison grew up on Dartmoor and is a passionate advocate for outdoor education. She retired from Rethink Mental Illness in 2019 and came to Shallowford through the Braund Society, struck immediately by Elizabeth's vision.
Robert Musgrave MBE - Vice Chairman
Robert has been connected to East Shallowford since Elizabeth purchased it in 1976. As Senior Youth Worker at Providence House, he played a central role in organising the first residential groups to the farm - and has been wearing out minibus tyres on the A303 ever since.
Anita Dowman - Trustee
Anita first visited Shallowford as a five-year-old with Providence House. She is now a qualified barrister and financial advisor, and a third-generation member of a four-generation family to the farm. She became a trustee to help shape Shallowford's next 50 years.
John Dracup - Trustee
John has lived at the neighbouring farm since he was six months old and knew Elizabeth Braund from her very first days at Shallowford. His local knowledge and agricultural experience have been invaluable to the farm's development.
Steve Fawcett - Trustee
Steve taught for almost forty years - ten in London, thirty in Torbay, working with some of the most disenfranchised young people in the system. He and his wife Jo have also fostered for twenty years.
Sue Adams - Trustee
Sue met Elizabeth through the Braund Society and has spent years organising and preserving Elizabeth's remarkable archive of photographs and materials. She brings meticulous care and deep knowledge of the farm's history to the board.
Ally Kohler BEM - Trustee
Ally spent most of her working life at Dartmoor National Park as Director of Conservation and Communities. Now retired, she continues to champion hands-on outdoor experiences for young people.
Johnny Walker - Trustee
Johnny lives thirty minutes from the farm and works as County Court Manager in Exeter. He grew up on a farm and loves nothing more than rolling his sleeves up and getting stuck in at Shallowford whenever he can.
